Introduction 

Writing professionally and accurately can play an important role in giving a good impression of professionalism to your clients and peers.  Business correspondence and other documents have a unique style and format that must be followed if you want to be credible and professional.

The course is designed for professionals who already have experience in business writing but want to further improve their business communication and writing skills. The course will be divided into two parts: in the first part the learners will learn the theory and guidelines of business writing, and in the second part they will get to apply the information they learned in their writing.

Course Objective
Upon completion of course the learners will be able to:

1.     Identify their audience with the help of an analysis tool
2.     Develop a business report using appropriate business writing standards
3.     Employ the principles of business writing in developing business documents
4.     Structure the message based on the purpose of the document
5.     Apply the skills by composing or creating a business proposal and an executive summary

Course outline

Module 1: Adapting And Planning To The Communication Situation
Effective business writers know how to adapt their writings to the communication situation. In this module, you will understand how to analyse the audience and purpose of your document and use the right channel to deliver your message.

Module 2: Developing A Business Report
After analysing the communication situation, a business report may be one of the documents you need to develop to address an issue inside and/or outside your organisation. This module will assimilate the importance of a business report as a communication tool and help you develop an effective report.

Module 3: Principles Of Business Writing
Business writing principles provide us with an understanding of how writing works in the corporate world, how it differs from other types of writing, and how to become an effective business writer. In this module, you will understand the complexity of business writing principles and the challenges in  applying them.

Module 4: Forming Your Message 
Structured communication is the process of organising your message effectively.  In this module, you will understand how to structure your message, its importance, and the various structuring methods.

Module 5: Composing A Business Proposal
A business  creates a business proposal to offer their products or services for a particular reason. This module will tackle the importance of a business proposal, how to write an effective business proposal, and some tips you can use in composing one.

Module 6: Creating An Executive Summary
According to Time Magazine research, 55% of individuals spend less than 15 seconds to actively read any information. This limits the time you have to persuade someone that your business report is worth their time, hence the importance of an executive summary. In this module, you will acquire the skills in creating a compelling executive summary.

 Learning Methodology

  • The course is designed for learners to study and complete the course modules and tasks at their own pace but within an agreed period of time.
  • The learners can post his/her concerns or questions regarding the course in the discussion board at the end of each module.
  • Our coaches will reply to the posted questions to provide feedback.
  •  After the learner has finished all the modules, he/she will be registered for the writing part of the course.
  • The learner will attempt the assignments according to the business writing rules he/she has learned in the first part of course.
  • Once the learner has submitted the required assignments, the coach will evaluate his/her work and provide offline feedback.

After all the assignments have been completed, the learner has an option to book TWO (2) online sessions with the coach to discuss their writing and improvement.
